This microchapbook, Talking to Alice, listens in on a speaker’s one-way-looking-glass conversation with the titular character of Alice in Wonderland. In these twelve short poems, Samuels ponders purpose, change, and the feelings of uncertainty that come with them. Drawing comparisons with Alice’s experiences falling down rabbit holes, being too large or too small, and getting lost, she offs the heads of sentences and maze-turns syntax to refract meaning in lovely ways. Reflective, wittily arranged, and truly in conversation with Alice’s adventures.
